mano (design through dialog)
secondary sketch made ontop of a biedermeier chair tracing
the ‘mano’ chair is developed in dialogue with a specific user and shaped through needs, body, and materials. the result is a custom-made piece of furniture tailored to the user’s size, function, and life situation

first mock-up of the chair to test dimensions and ergonomics
the process is at the core of the work. it begins with conversation and research, continues through drawing, material selection, and prototypes, and culminates in a finished handcrafted piece of furniture
initial sketch by private client from bergen my work therefore grows through an interaction between myself as the maker, the client as the user, the material as a limit and the technical drawer as an assitant —where all in all the object and the knowledge develop through the process

testing and adjusting the chair and materials
for me as a craftsperson, this process is also a form of personal development. each project challenges me to expand my skills, explore new techniques, and sometimes adopt both new and traditional tools in order to find the best solutions.

explosion drawing created by Hannes Frey
the materials are primarily locally sourced, and their properties and origins become an active part of the form-giving process
